I know there are lots of tools on the web for determining how much large of a solar system you need, but I feel like sense could provide a much better one since it has all of your detailed usage and by device type.

For example, you can use people’s locations to determine their sun exposure profile and then the data on what kinds of devices they use when to come up with a really good estimate.

Having installed solar myself on two different houses and having helped a few others do it, your electric bill is the number one tool for deciding how much solar you need. Combine this with pvwatts and you have the means to design a solar PV system.
