2025.2 - New updates to help you enter your electricity rate!

We are happy to announce updates to the process for entering your electricity rate into your Sense Home app. These updates were recently released and make it easier than ever to input the rate your electricity provider is charging your home. Please use this new option, and let us know how it works for you.

Here’s how:

  • Go to Settings (the gear icon) and choose the Electricity Info tab.
  • The system alerts you if the app is presenting an average rate.

  • Use the new Help Me Find My Rate button to input your actual rate in cents per kWh. Please have your latest electricity bill handy.

This new feature walks you through the simple process of putting in the amount your provider charged for the latest billing cycle, then adding the total kWh relating to that charge. These 2 details allow the app to more closely estimate your total rate. Sense will then use that rate as it estimates your costs.

See How do I set my single cost electricity rate? in our Help Center for details. You might also want to consult How do I set billing cycle(s) in the Sense app? And if you have more than one rate to set, check out How do I set multiple Time of Use rate zones?

We’d love to hear how this works for you!

Thank you for the new feature! It looks like it could help some users.

In my case, the Help Me Find My Rate feature does not help. My energy provider charges a monthly service charge plus a cost per kilowatt-hour, so the apparent unit cost varies with total usage. Natural gas heats my home in the winter, so my usage is lowest during cold months. As a result, my apparent cost is higher in the winter, as shown in the graph below. The average of my most recent year is the cost I declare to Sense, which seems to be the best I can do.

Thanks, Jeff. This is useful even as it is not surprising. With all the different home configurations and all the utility providers with their different rates and fees, one standard remains a challenge for Sense try to offer within the app. We appreciate your input, and I have alerted Product to your feedback.
