Identified my Ioniq 5 … kind of

I got a notification that Sense identified my EV. When I look at it though it looks like the electricity attributed to my Ioniq ramps down over several minutes and the “other” category ramps up. Even though the power draw from the EV hasn’t changed. I was excited to see it finally identified my EV considering how much electricity it draws but I’m disappointed it only attributes a small fraction of the electricity to it.

Not that it directly helps with your issue, but I found this new bit on what Sense is doing with Sense-enabled meters and utilities in Australia interesting.

Looks like they are also marketing to utilities in the UK.

Seems like what the Tesla power wall and smart meter is doing for Tesla owners. Along with allowing for virtual power plants (VPP) in some places like California.

In their case they allow the car to talk to the meter so they have 100% accuracy over how much power the vehicle uses. It doesn’t work with non Tesla vehicles but that’s not Tesla’s business model. From what I’ve seen of sense it isn’t that accurate for EVs (as shown above). It only attributes about 10% of my Ioniq 5 to the car with the rest of it listed as “other” and I know there are other EV owners with similar experiences. Tesla it seems to be better with but there are a lot of EVs it struggles with.

So I don’t know how much of this video we should anticipate being a reality.

Sense isn’t able to fully detect all EVs yet. It’s tricky, but something I am well aware of. The best thing to do now is, if you have the middle port available (no solar, split service, or generator), you could use it to monitor your EV with dedicated circuits.

To do that, go here: https://help.sense.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054079254-Can-I-Improve-Device-Detection-Using-A-Dedicated-Circuit

If you wish to buy extra CTs, go here:

I think this is your best shot for EVs right now.

Thanks again!
