Wanted to share end of year plots of a bunch of devices I have on smartplugs to help people decide whether they should put similar devices on smartplugs. Many electronics use so little, it’s really not valuable to have them on smartplugs. The curves below are distributions of hourly usage. The automatically generated green and red triangles based on density mins and maxes are an attempt to look for different modes of operation of these devices. The max width of the x axis reflects the max value of usage, so some devices have far outliers.
I wouldn’t put anything that stays under 10Wh or 0.010 kWh on a smart plug.
