Installing Sense in the distribution panel

Can Sense be installed in the distribution panel which is powered by solar instead of the main panel?

Im asking because if there is a power outage from the utility company Sense will be offline.

What do you think?

Yes, totally do able. If your using a critical load panel. You could even mount the sense in your main panel then run your sense power wires to the critical loads panel.

Of course you can put the sense in the critical loads panel and rung the CT’s all the back to the main panel.

@ccook, thanks for your feedback. I will make the changes.

My home is powered by battery backup during sunset to sunrises hours and then by solar in the day so i found it pointless to have my Sense being powered by the grid.

You CAN mount the unit in one panel and run the CT’s into another panel.
You CAN power the unit from one panel, mount the unit outside of the panel and run the CT’s into another panel.
However you CANNOT legally (NEC) mount the Sense unit in one panel and run the power wires into another panel.

@obscuredtrip , noted and thanks for your feedback.

I will verify with solar installer so that i remain compliant with my license.

Happy that is doable because i’m trying to reduce my use of the grid as best as possible to just the minimum usage from my hybrid inverter.
