7 years of Sense data, 86% Always on & Other. Need a means of device manual entry

This post could’ve fit in a few of the sub-fora, but I left it here in General.

I have 53 devices and 7 years of sense data in my device. My monthy “snapshot” just showed up in my email. Admittedly, I haven’t examined every month. When I look at this and see that 86% is in the two “ambiguous” categories, I have to ask myself how much valuebale data am I acutaully getting out of my investment?

I under stand the “always on” category 41.7% . Not much to be done with that. It is what it is. But the 45.3% of “other” is ridiculous. If I had a means of manually entering my devices, I bet I could bring that down to less than 12%-15%. See attached.

I understand the “groupware” function that Sense relies on for suggesting what other users have identified “found” devices and labeled them as, but there really should be a means of being able to manually enter a device and identifying it without relying on Sense to make this (in)-decision for me.

To be clear, what I am asking for is for me to be able to monitor my Sense in real time, turn a device on and off several times, have sense “see it”, and then have it offer for me to label it and add it as a device. This would increse my data accuracy significantly and actually allow me to better monitor all of my devices.

Nearly 50% in the “other” category is usless to me.

Based on my 7 years of experience, there is more you can do if you really want to quantify and reduce, but it will rely on using a single Sense-compatible “traveller” smart plug, the Sense “Add Always On Device” button in the Always On list, plus a spreadsheet outside of Sense maintaining Other devices that you know the usage for. The Always On disaggregation is pretty easy with the smart plug and Sense feature. Other disaggregation is trickier. But how to do it is all here, if you are willing to live in a world where Sense doesn’t automatically do it all for you.
