New Solar Settings for More Control and Clearer Insights

Where to Find Solar Settings

Once available, you’ll be able to access Solar Settings directly in the app:

  1. Open the Sense app
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Select Solar

From here, you can manage solar detection and review how your solar energy is reported.

Note that this setting is only available for Sense Monitor users at this time.

What You’ll See in Solar Settings

Solar Settings are dynamic, so you’ll see different options depending on your setup, including:

  • Option to set up solar sensors if not already installed
  • Options to enable/disable solar detection without sensors or in addition to solar sensors
  • Sell-back rate settings if Sense is already tracking your solar production

Some examples of different states of the settings page are below.

New Sell-Back Rate Controls

Another highly requested improvement: more control over sell-back rates.

By default:

  • Net metering is turned on, meaning your sell-back rate matches your electricity cost per kilowatt-hour, including time-of-use periods

If you turn net metering off:

  • You can enter a custom sell-back rate. If you have already entered a custom sell-back rate, you’ll see it here.
  • That rate will apply to the “to grid” stat, and will be part of the calculation on your net cost.

This helps your Sense data better reflect how your utility credits excess solar.

Note: an earlier version of this post referred to “coming soon” updates; it has been updated to reflect the changes that have been released in the 2026.2 version of the Sense app. We’ve also removed references to ‘Sidecar,’ which is the internal name for the detection service that powers solar detection.

Hi folks, QQ, do you know if for the next update you will support the new Phillips Hue Bridge? I keep getting an error when I try to re-setup my Hue lights after the upgrade. Thanks!

Hi @miguel_martinez, I’m just a fellow user, I’d try posting in one of the following areas, you may be more apt to get a response from someone at sense.

Thanks @flipflopkid Will do!

Hi Miguel,

We don’t have support for the new Hue Bridge on our roadmap yet. I wouldn’t expect it to come soon.

That said, I’ll make a note that this is a feature our users (like you!) want to see, to help our team set priorities appropriately.
