Came back last night on Amazon but process now 69.99. Getting to point price not worth it.
Same price as an HS300 with 6 plugs.
I have a hs300 the problem with that is you can’t use it as a traveler and will be unsightly where I want the other .
I bought one of these smartthings plugs also to try it out. Yes it has a native energy monitoring.
I have been hesitant to purchase the kasa single plug simply because it is very large.
Smartthings is the size of the kasa mini.
Currently the Amazon price is about the same. 15-16$ for either. Little cheaper for kasa if you buy the double pack.
Personally I think it would be great if kasa…or smartthings. Made switches and outlets that monitor energy as well as smart control
But then I also find one of these.
Which is 17$ and has 4 plugs of energy monitoring.
Maybe sense can develop and sell there own smart plugs, powerstrips, outlets and or switches.
I don’t know how much you guys know about the economics, but a small volume manufacturer typically has to price their electronics at 4-6 times the cost to manufacture/assemble/distribute it, to fund R&D, support, selling through channels and profits. The cost to manufacture/assemble/distribute something like the HS300 (6 outlets) is on the order of 20$. A Sense-built version would probably need to cost over 100$, instead of the 69$ or occasional 59$ the HS300 costs.
I am ignorant of those dynamics. And thank you for the insight. Sad it would cost more for sense to have those own integrated products.
I am a new Sense customer and spent more time than I am willing to admit trying to find the TP-Link smart plugs.
TP-Link Kasa HS110
Amazon Canada: $66.97 CAD -> ($49.91 USD)
Amazon US: ($87.56 USD) -> $117.49 CAD
ebay Canada: $77.04 CAD -> ($57.41 USD) lowest price
ebay US: Used (39.99+19.02+10.23 USD) -> $93.03 CAD Used, no new stock
TP-Link Kasa HS300
Amazon Canada: $152.61 CAD -> ($113.72 USD)
Amazon US: (69.99+25.83 USD) -> $128.58 CAD
ebay Canada: $125.40 CAD -> ($93.43 USD)
ebay US: (79.59+14.14 USD) -> $125.79 CAD
@kevin1 @RyanAtSense Was there a dialog ever made with TP-Link to work towards providing compatibility with their newer devices? They would have the benefit of getting Sense customers and could use Sense compatible or something branding (like my Wiser Energy unit).
It sadly looks like support for smart plugs will soon be limited to only those that were able to purchase them and the page advertising this feature will need to be removed. At some point, TP-Link will kill off support for older devices.
I am quite happy with my Sense and understand the limitations of a small company. It is impressive that you are communicating directly with the community. Consider this just another nudge from a concerned customer.
Stay safe,
…Donovan
Edit: Corrected ebay US CAD Costs
Hey @donovan.long - @RyanAtSense has moved over to the Product team, so I’ll be your main resource in the community. Definitely understanding the frustration in tracking these down. Unfortunately, the smart plug market is very volatile. There are tons of new players in the space and we anticipate upcoming announcements from large consumer tech companies trying to get in on the action .
While we don’t have an exact details on TP-Link next steps re: production of the HS-110 smart plugs again, we are looking into alternative options that meet Sense requirements for energy monitoring capabilities. We’ll continue to share updates here and on the main Smart Plug product wishlist thread as soon as we have more information.
Again, appreciate your patience and general enthusiasm towards Sense. Message me anytime you have a question or need assistance.
@donovan.long, just to clarify one thing. TP-Link has only built two devices with the ability to monitor energy usage - the HS-110 and the HS-300. So there is no “compatibility with newer models” option, at least until TP-Link offers a new single plug energy monitoring smart plug model.
Absolutely. It makes no sense (…) for Sense to try to target the extremely low cost, mass produced devices, for whom the manufacturer is most likely using using an OEM product in the first place. We really do need a major player to get into the game, launch only 2 or 3 products for this purpose and stand behind them for years. That is the path to success here for Sense. Thanks.
