It’s been many months since I last logged in and was just checking on any additions to the smart plugs available. To my surprise there have been no new plugs added. My sense over the past year is still unable to detect my variable speed direct drive pool pump. There are NO outdoor smart plugs available that are compatible with sense.
This is very disappointing that development seems to have stalled or is little to nothing.
You’re raising a good point. My take is that the world has changed a lot since the original Sense smart plug integrations. Virtually all smart plug suppliers that do power monitoring are moving toward the Matter set of protocol standards for communicating. TP-Link and Kasa plugs are certainly moving in that direction. That’s good news and bad news:
- Good News is that that should make it easier to support a broader range of plugs
- Bad News is that a standard like this is no guarantee of support - there’s a whole additional level or two of implementation and adoption details that have to be aligned to make everything work - things like sample rates, synchronization, common units.
I don’t have any insight into what’s going on behind the scenes at Sense but am seeing the smart home transition to Matter, and some of the elements, including power metering and management aren’t pretty.
