I use the web interface to my Sense setup to monitor my solar & EV charging, when I am at my desktop.
today, I see this:
Please use the Sense Home app on iOS and Android for the best experience and most up-to-date features. The Sense web app is not currently in active development
Will Sense pull the plug on the web interface in the near future? Why? There are still those might not have a smart phone (I actually know one person that uses a flip phone still)
Is this a symptom of the company going potential having financial troubles?
My bet is that Sense won’t deprecate the Web App, but it won’t receive any new capabilities as they are added to the app. I just updated the feature comparison table for iOS/Android app vs. Web App and there are many features not in the Web App. There are only two features, Export and the list of Always On devices that are in the Web App but not in the iOS/Android app. So I only use the Web App for those two features.
Let me know if you see something off in this table.
If you want to download a CSV file from Sense on your phone, you’ll need to use the web app in desktop mode. The mobile app doesn’t support CSV exports at this time.
I wish they would start releasing a build of the IOS version of the app that will run on an Apple Silicon Mac so I can run that app on my computer and not be forced to the Web. Countless other apps are doing this but for some unknown reason, Sense has never done that.
I get this will not fix it for everyone, but at least IOS/MacOS users could get a native app
Doesn’t help the with the sense version, the Wiser Energy app had that ability, but the switch to their home app may have screwed that up. I used to have it working on a M2 Mac.
It seems my monitor is currently locked out of all apps so I’m in limbo right now of all things sense or wiser related.
I will also pass any feedback you have in this interaction along as well.
I use an Apple Silicon Mac and, while I am aware this is not the same, I frequently access the Sense app by using the native iPhone mirroring app, which works well for me. I don’t know if this helps, but it is an option.
I’m probably shooting myself in the foot, but… everyone download the WiserEnergy app to you silicon mac while you still can! There are some bugs, but… the Wiser Energy app still allows me connect to my sense monitor from an M2 macbook air.
So please, someone at sense authorize the ipad app to work on macOS.
One on the main reasons I chose Sense a few years back was that it did have a web app. I use my phone apps as little as possible! I have dexterity problems and hate small screens and keyboards.
I’ve always had the Sense, pun intended that the device/company would die a slow death or be absorbed into another company. Why? Because they have mostly failed to do many of the promised functions they said it would do. Case in point, detecting new devices. I have heard all the reasons why its come up short but none of that was mentioned when they were selling them.
I have had Sense for over 2 years now and IF I removed all the smart plugs (15) and a few Hue smart bulbs my main screen would have like three bubbles. Always on, Other and one DCM.
I thought it had finally detected my Dryer. I have that intermittently and am up to a mystery heat 8 detected now.
I guess it does have some value but I’d give it an overall rating of fair because in the few years I’ve had it I haven’t seen any meaningful updates.
