Thanks, @aj.vandenberghe. I’ll share this with the team.
As a brand new user that got Sense installed as part of solar installation, I find that pushing solar to the background is a step back. Maybe give people options for what they want to quickly navigate to. Maybe one size doesn’t fit all.
I also find the new meter icon, ugly. Why make it red and stand out. It ruins the design of the app.
Hi @ljkelley. There’s a lot of varying opinions in here and we’ll be discussing several of them with the team. That being said, this update was meant to bring the Power Meter to the forefront of the app. The purpose of these forums are to share and gather feedback from the community with the general understanding we’re all trying to make Sense better for everyone, so we appreciate constructive feedback moving forward.
I purchased the Sense monitor to keep an eye on my solar production. My solar system is fairly old and I did not have a remote way of checking solar production vs consumption. I am not a fan of the new interface and I like to see the solar icon back where it was before. Also, the power meter only gives me a small snapshot with the labels on the baseline. I like to see the labels when I zoom out for a couple hours.
Zooming in the power meter is weird. When i try to zoom out a bit from the initial screen it jumps back massively and shows me years of data (or tries to) Is this just me? I see this on two android devices.
Also, I frequently use the power meter in landscape mode -> I miss having the bottom tools available while landscape.
(Little snow on the solar panels in Denver this morning)
I’ll second that… Actually, I’d just like to consistently see labels. As it is, they’re not always shown, even if there were a number of devices detected for the period being viewed.
This bug has been around for a while. Are you going to the power meter, rotating the phone, and then trying to zoom? That will reproduce the bug.
The workaround is to rotate the phone, go to trends, go to power meter. It will now zoom just fine.
Thanks that does seems to work. You do have to go to trends first since there is no trends button to press once in landscape mode (hint hint). Interesting that I never noticed this problem before. Is the power meter somehow different then the meter we used to have on the “now” page ?
This will still all be a pain for the $30 tablet I have velcro’d to the wall (in landscape mode), which I frequently leave displaying the power meter.
Thanks, Again.
You should be seeing the nav bar in landscape on a tablet. What device are you using? Just tested on a Nexus 9 and it’s working as intended.
I think this is new behavior. The nav bar does not appear on my phone in landscape, but does appear on my tablet in landscape (Pixel and G Pad F8 respectively).
I have the same timeline behavior in landscape, then if I switch back to portrait it does the same when changing the timeline. I have to then kill the app and reopen to get portrait to work correctly.
The nav bar did not previously show in landscape on mobile phones. You can see a screen capture here: Top 5 Powerful Sense Features: #1 Power Meter - YouTube
It should, however, show on tablet devices — both iOS and Android. If anyone is not seeing the nav bar on a landscape tablet, please let me know the make/model of the tablet so we can better investigate.
@billlokey that sounds like a bug and not something I’ve seen before. Please report to support@sense.com
Ok, I see.
I can see the nav bar on my fire 7. The one I have glued (Velcro really) to the wall as a semi-permanent display is a super cheap RCA branded piece of junk form Wal Mart (running like Android 4). I could care less if I burn out the display.
I’d guess that the resolution is so low that the app is treating it like a phone and not displaying the nav bar. I certainly wouldn’t expect you to go to any particular effort to make it work any better (though my preference would be to have the nav bar while in landscape on the phone too).
It sure would be nice if you could fix that power meter zooming bug (especially if it’s been around for awhile) & fix so the power meter keeps the screen turned on (also getting some random crashes when zooming around).
Thanks.
Patch: iOS v31.1 / Android v31.2
We just released a small patch (iOS v31.1 / Android v31.2) following our v.31 release focused on some alterations to Power Meter functionality and in-app navigation.
Added functionality includes:
- Zoom scaling options have been added to the Power Meter, making it easier to view different time windows without pinching/zooming.
- You can now access your Usage screen by tapping the wattage icon at the top of the Power Meter.
- Solar users can access the Solar screen by tapping the solar icon at the top of the Power Meter.
