Moving soon. How can I export my data? What kind of reset should I do? What should I monitor with my current solar CTs?

I will be listing my house soon and am in the process of packing up. I have not really paid attention to Sense the last few years (other than to check consumption/production) and it’s my understanding that they are winding down support for the Sense monitors. But if it still works, I’d like to use it in my new home. I currently have solar, but the new house does not. What have you found to be the most useful for dedicated circuit monitoring?

Unfortunately, it was immediately obvious that the breaker layout does not match the label at all. So one of the first things I’ll have to do is go around and test a single breaker at a time and see what has power and make my own circuit breaker label in Excel.

First question: This house has 2 central AC systems, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. So that’s 4 devices. This is a hypothetical, I realize the breakers would probably need to be positioned just right, but could one of the clamps go around the wires for the outside units and one of them go around the wires for the inside units? I know that each would show up as a single device in the app.

If not, the upstairs unit is going to be an inverter driven variable speed system, but the downstairs ductwork is uninsulated metal ducts and the installer has said they highly recommend sticking with a single stage system to prevent condensation on the ducts. So my next thought would be to monitor that and the water heater because it’s a hybrid heat pump system.

I will also have an electrician come out to run a wire to the garage for my EV, so monitoring it directly could always be an option too. Here is the panel at my new house. I snagged a picture during the home inspection last week.

Second question: I would like to export all my current data (roughly 5.5 years). Can I do that? How?

Third question: Once I get the data exported, I see there are 2 different reset options in the app. One called reset data and one called Factory Reset. I’m going to guess I just want to reset data and my assumption is that factory reset will disassociate the monitor from my account completely. Is this a good assumption? Or, if I reset data, will it just start immediately collecting data for my current house again?

Two answers - you probably need to check with support on the third.

  1. If you want to repurpose your solar CTs for DCM circuit monitoring, you can do 2 separate loads, even if multiple circuits are involved, but only multiple circuits if they are at the same voltage and matching leg/phase. For instance, I have an up and a down AC unit, but I’m only able to monitor the 240V outdoor compressors with the CTs - I can not also include the air handlers / furnaces that are on a separate 120V circuit. 1. Exporting data is a great idea. The best approach is to do it into yearly files at 1 hour resolution. You need to so it from the web app (home.sense.com).
