@Drosoph , that seems very strange. Do you have some working “older” Sense-supported Kasa plugs that are reporting OK ? Are your new plugs reporting into the Kasa app ?
If both of those are true, and you have enough tech literacy, you might try this utility. You’ll need to run it from a PC/Mac/Server that is on the same IP subnet as your smart plugs and Sense.
