Solar plus Batteries are Moving to the Forefront

Solar has reached sufficient scale in California that it’s hugely affecting grid management. Some of you might have heard of the newest rate structures for oar NEM 3.0 and its chilling effect on solar installs. But the bottom line is that utilities and states can have too much solar. The good news is that batteries one of the few ways to take advantage of increased residential and commercial solar production.

The figure below comes from the article you mention above. I liked how the solar eclipse was noticeable statewide. That was noted on the personal level by @dannyterhaar at his post eclipse as shown on sense.

A footnote to the article says the data in this figure “reflects utility-scale generation and does not include ‘behind-the-meter’ sources, such as rooftop solar panels.”
