When I go to Dashboard → Usage in the mobile app, is there no longer an option to see total usage in KWh for that selected time period? It only shows the cost. You can tap on a device to switch between cost and KWh, but I cannot see the aggregate KWh for that selected range. And I appreciate how it breaks down the devices by percentage of usage, but I don’t want to do an extra tap to see the KWh usage. I’d much rather see usage in Kwh than percent.
And it drives me absolutely bananas that the dashboard defaults to “billing cycle.” It should either remember the last selection, or add an option in settings to set a default range… My utility does not have a standard billing cycle and it varies each month by 3-5 days, so this is literally never accurate for me. I’d rather just set it to default to weekly or monthly.
@JamesDrewAtSense is a rockstar on support… I know this isn’t really a support item, but do you have any insight? I didn’t open a ticket because something happened with the ticketing system and single signon does not work anymore, so I can’t even view my past support requests. It’s as if they’re actively trying to break everything. But it’s fine - at least they’re getting all the data and big bucks from the utility meter integrations.
@portfolioso , I can give you some thoughts on what I think is happening, but not as definitive as @JamesDrewAtSense. It feels very much like the Dashboard and underlying usage UI (Detailed Usage, Devices, and Device Usage) have been redone to simplify for meter users who get Sense capabilities via their utility. Things like moving all references to solar out of the main Dashboard element, moving some, but not all of the Devices functionality into the Dashboard Detailed Usage, and the squared off bar graphs). All those moves consolidated 95% of what a meter user might need into two displays.
I suspect that the designer defaulted to Billing Cycle, not last used, for the same reason, simplification for the meter users so they get verisimilitude with their billing statements by default. I’m kind of interested to see what comes next, because you would think that the next round of simplification would bring auto-configuration of pricing and billing periods to meter customers which would finally force Sense to deal with variable billing periods and automatic updates of pricing per utility / plan.
BTW - you can get the look you want - default to Month view and aggregated energy usage, by changing Billing Cycle to “Not Set” and Show Cost to “Off” in the Electricity part of Settings, but that has inevitable side effects, of which the biggest for me is turning off the cost estimates for each Device in the Detailed Devices Usage view. Here’s my default Detailed Usage Dashboard with those two Settings changes.
Coming from the 4 year old Wiser Energy app, I am now realizing how much I used the Usage
area in the Device info/stats screen. And I’m seeing that some features have been stripped from the Sense app.
I feel cheated now… It seems there was more data easily accessible in the older versions of the app. I’m not sure when this was removed as I was forced to wiser app 4 years ago, I guess being stuck in time had its perks.
The usage area displayed and gave access to a lot more information and data.
I really do miss being able to easily see how may times a day/wk/mo/yr or the bill with just a tap when I’m looking at the stats for a device.
You could even swipe left and right on the timeline to see different days/wk/monty/yrs.
Clicking the arrow on the right side of the Usage area would bring you to the summary with all devices listed. (Appears to be similar to the current offering, but better).
This area before, was also very informative. It allows you to:
Easily change day,wk,mo,yr and bill
Swipe left and right for timelines (different day/wk/mo/yr)
The removal of some of these features feels like a step backwards.
@JamesDrewAtSense, please suggest and pass this onto the app devs or whoever has the ability to bring these, once very useful, features back to the app.
That couldn’t agree anymore. I have another old phone that I use as a tablet, and I downloaded an old APK for sense. It’s a couple of versions prior and I can see KWH’s there.
