New to Solar

Hi, I’ve been a sense user since 2018, but of late Sense support has cut me off since I don’t live in one of their supported countries (I live in the Caribbean), So I reaching out to the community for support.

Anyhow, I finally added solar and the experience has been confusing. I added the solar CTs to the lines coming from the inverter and went through the solar commissioning process in the Sense app. Prior to this my sense system has always worked well and reliably.

Now, when I go to settings, mains, one shows positive and one shows negative. Same for the solar.

What is going on here. The main CTs have worked fine for years and have not be touched. The solar CTs are both oriented in the same direction.

Is the readout normal, and how should I interpret what I am seeing? If it’s abnormal, how can I fix without Sense support?

Update. I went through the solar set up process again, and sense seems to be pulling more accurate data. However, in settings → system → main one is showing positive and the other negative. How should I interpret this? Is one of the CTs pointing in the wrong direction?

All 4 values should be positive The Solar option does a CT polarity check and has to match mains CTs with the corresponding solar CTs during the setup process. Plus it has to do it for two different types of feed-ins. Sometimes setup can get it wrong. Support can “flip” the negative CT via changing the configuration for the monitor on their end or you can flip the CT physically.

Hmm. I will try to reach out to support. But like I said they have stopped providing support since I don’t live in one of their approved countries (even though my grid is identical to the US)

If I flip one of the CTs, would that mean one would point in one direction and the other in another?

It’s OK to have them flipped in different direction because they are all software “flippable” at the Sense mothership. That’s what solar setup does and how support can fix. But you can also physically flip the direction. Try one, and see if that fixes the negative. If that makes both solar negative, do the other, as well as flipping the original one back.

Thanks. I think support flipped it for me.
