The Ethernet Sense monitors are not widely available. Some of them are sold to Amazon and may or may not be listed as having Ethernet ports, but previously they were not sold directly to customers.
I just wanted to be clear, as I am not even sure how you could get one instead of the standard WiFi-only monitors.
Sorry about this, but I just thought I would clarify.
Hi I emailed Discourse customer support on your behalf to try to figure out this issue. This can happen time to time and I have had to email them before.
@JamesDrew Mine died this morning as well at 3am, had a notification when I woke up that it was offline. I didnāt get a second email from Schneider but I did get the first one.
I setup the Schneider app, it also thinks the sense is offline. It does have some of my devices, but I donāt see any data.
I rebooted the device to see if that would help and it sent a blip of data again to sense servers (I can see it in the web app, and home assistant integration), but still not āonlineā with schneider.
Also, home assistant doesnāt support schneider to pull in the data
The reason I bought the green version and not the regular sense is that it was readily available in Canada, sense was not.
If I was able to acquire the sense version would the 2 connection cables be the same? If I did that, is it possible to port the data from one device to another?
more than 10 days, schneider has not been able to allow me to sign up with the se home app using the same email address i signed up with the wiser app. So i jumped ship. I installed the emporia vue.
I really thinking porting the data should be allowed/available, especially in this situation. It really should just be a matter of replacing the identifier (most likely the serial number) in the SQL database.
@prepare3envelopes ,
Not sure itās that simple and it seems like Schneider has bigger fish to fry in this moment - just reestablishing accounts.
But this certainly speaks to all Wiser monitor users doing a data Export from the WebApp of all their historic data, preferably with Hourly resolution, when they get that first email from Schneider !
Furthermore, I use a lot of kasa devices (including fake ones from Home Assistant) to export data so that sense discovers it and includes it in itās calculation. At this point its very unclear if I will be able to add more. The ones I have are still working but the app makes no mention of it actually being a feature.
Just signed into the new SE app. Already not liking it as it doesnāt respect merged devices, so now I see things like āStove 1, Stove 2 and Stove 3ā as three separate devices where in the Sense app it was shown as just a single device named āStoveā.
Edit: itās even worse than that, itās not showing correct energy usage (AC is on and app says itās off). Nor do I see a way to set up alerts if a device is left on too long.
I got one email, but not the second one to tell me I was actually migrated.
I am currently trying to figure out if my Wiser unit has the same cables/plugs as a new sense unit. If it does Iāll just swap units, Iām not interested in beta testing this for Schneider for the next 2 years, the app is a disaster and is a huge (huge!) step backwards.
I put them in, but it doesnāt save them correctly. Despite having summer/winter section it saves the same thing twice, even though I put them in different.
It shows no mention of any external devices (Kasa, etc)
Combined devices dont work right
You canāt put one device as a child of another
Thereās no API
Thereās no support for canada at all really, everything is in usd, the app shows a current temp in F with no way to change it.
It doesnāt calculate costs correctly, my rates are correct and its telling me I have only used 24cents of power so far today (which is totally wrong).
I could go on, but this is basically a dumpster fire.
I know I added extra ctās to my wiser monitor and they were sense solar ctās. So, the ctās are the same. the Wifi cable if it needs to be switched is not very technical. And the power cable, has the same red, black and white wires and connector.
I really donāt see why you couldnāt just swap the monitors out. The issues seem to be when you try to share usernames or migrate accounts.
Iām trying to get my wiser monitor back to a usable state and iāll probably give it to a friend who probalby wouldnāt know the difference between a good or bad implementation of monitoring.
The response I got was:
While the Wiser and Sense monitors share many similarities in design and functionality, we strongly recommend using separate CT clamps and power cables for each device. This ensures full compatibility, safety, and accuracy of data readings.
Although the CTs may appear similar, they are individually calibrated for their respective monitors during manufacturing. Mixing components between the Wiser and Sense units could result in inaccurate readings or communication issues.
You cant see when devices turn on and off, only the graph
You canāt set the stand by power of a device
I have to say @JamesDrew Iām quite pissed off. I got this i as it was the only option available in Canada readily, and it was a rebranded Sense. Now I see weāve been sold off or something else to Schenider who has not a great history of app development, for an app that does 10% of what the sense App does.
Is there any chance of getting a discount on a proper sense device? I feel like we are getting screwed over here as this is not the device I bought its now been morphed into something else I donāt want.
@JamesDrew Can someone from Sense comment on this post by SE? They are saying Sense is no longer in the monitoring business?
āHowever, the users of the Green version of the monitor would be transitioned to Schneider and specifically the Schneider Home app since Sense is no longer in the Monitor business.ā
A discount would be a great idea, nothing crazy but something to match like their previous Amazon Prime Day sale ($229) or similar. I too am very disappointed with this. Prior to me purchasing I did my due diligence and based my decision on the below post from a Sense employee, @RyanAtSense.
Maybe the SE app will get better over months/years. But as it is now it is drastically missing core functionality and my Wiser unit is essentially worthless to me at the moment (no device alerts, not showing accurate info of devices being on/off, canāt see history of how long devices were on for, not respecting icons on home screen, canāt merge devices and so on). A different look and feel is one thing, but this migration should not have happened until all the core functionality from Sense was implemented in SE Home.
While I donāt think itās Senseās fault as they canāt control SE, the customer shouldnāt be left feeling like we were bait and switched.
I saw that @JamesDrew mentioned giving Schneider a chance. And Iām sure their agreement w/ Schneider does not allow them to poach customers, and I understand that.
However, the App is just bad, it breaks all my smart home stuff (ie home assistant integrations), etc. And I canāt wait for them to do 5 years of development to catch up to Sense if their current agreement does not allow for re-use of the pre-existing code base. I am sorry to say I have zero confidence in it as it only has about 10% of the functionally of the current Wiser D app, and then that was behind the sense app.
I found a new, but open box SM3 unit for under $100 delivered so I took that deal as it was too good to pass up. Coincidentally it also has ethernet (not that the wifi ever caused me any issues), so I look forward to getting that.
It I am sure will be interesting to add a new sense to my pre-existing sense account, I guess I will have to delete the current one, and then add the new one.
