Schneider Wiser (Green) Monitors Transition

The biggest problem with the new app is it’s missing device notifications which could be a safety issue. One of the main reasons I purchased this is to be notified if a device (oven, stove, heater, etc) had been left on too long. Getting an alert of this would not only save electricity, but could also prevent a fire.

Ironically Schneider still advertises this feature on their website for the Wiser…

I posted a reply to the post you linked to on their forum. It is awaiting approval. I somehow think the chances for it’s approval are about as good as me getting the green monitor working by August. I don’t think the moderators will let it post. I may have been a bit harsh, but I am an owner of a currently non configurable green monitor and I’ve read of others mostly negative feelings, so I feel I ok about complaining. I still would like to see what their lastest greatest nightmare is all about. I’ll still probably get rid of the monitor as I have little to no desire to be a beta tester for them.

EDIT. It just posted!

New device, Detected.

But what kind of device? And where is the configure button it’s talking about? And when did this device turn on?

None of that information is available.

How were your able to register for their forum? When I tried to log in to their community forum using my username/password that were created on the Schneider Home app it then made me setup MFA (surprising since this wasn’t required when I first created my SE account using the Schneider Home app). It then wanted me to enter my business info (name, address, tax id, etc) and wouldn’t let me go any further unless I did that, which I can’t do as I’m a residential user and not a business.

Ironically enough, this morning I got the first email from SE about the “upcoming” app change. LOL

To any Sense users reading this thread, be thankful you bought the orange box version as this SE app is a dumpster fire. See the interesting issues in the screenshots below (device running without firmware, energy usage not adding up properly, and I even sometimes see negative usage which is impossible as I do not have solar).

Plus I can’t post to SE forum as they only allow businesses to register for the forum.

It looks like the same thing happened to me earlier this week. Yesterday I was forced to put the new Schneider home app and it’s awful. The old sense app and the old wiser energy app was perfectly fine and work much better.

Also, it looks like I don’t have access to the cloud version anymore.

Why can’t you guys just work with them? And have them use your app again, which worked amazing for the last three years

I used my Schneider login and answered the questions to the best of my ability.

We need to jailbreak the wiser monitors and flash the sense monitor firmware to them.
But we’d have to some stop auto firmware updates and wiser model detection.

The ability to convert Wiser to Sense by flashing firmware would be awesome, but I don’t see that ever happening unless Sense and SE came to some sort of agreement to allow this for dissatisfied customers.

It really is shocking that a company as big as Schneider would allow this horrible roll out. In my career I’ve been involved with numerous system upgrades and migrations. From small stuff like simple end user applications to large full blown ERP system implementation and migration. I assure you if I ever had any of my go-lives be as poor as this one then I would not have a job.

It’d be like jailbreaking an iphone. neither sense or wiser would be happy. it would be seen as a security issue with the monitor.

I wish that we could use the old app again. Maybe if enough people speak up, maybe this will happen???

It’s concerning that there’s no recourse for them breaking what was functioning correctly and making it unusable. When I bought the Wiser branded device my understanding the only difference was marketing but that has slowly eroded and now imploded.

The same cables should work, but if you do get a Sense from Amazon, it should come with all the accessories, though I understand it may be a pain if you have to install them.

I would say you should be able to just unplug everything and plug the Sense in.

With that said, it still may be worth giving SE a shot. I would also reach out to them and let them know you want Home Assistant.

Technically, I (Sense) do not support it either and can’t really speak on it.

For smart plugs, I am less sure, though SE may ideally want you to use theirs. It would be best to ask them.

I hope this helps.

Hey @JamesDrewAtSense as a result of posts like this one: Square D Wiser Energy Monitor & Sense (same?) - #8 by RyanAtSense

I think that the understanding of everyone was they were effectively the same product and the difference was purely marketing.

That is clearly no longer the case but it was for a time. But that is the issue as we now have a broken product.

Yup, Sense said it was the same product just with a different color. That assurance and the fact that it had a longer warranty (18 months vs 12 months), is why I bought the Wiser variant. Plus it was available at Home Depot for slightly less money.

@JamesDrewAtSense, can you comment on this post:

"However, the users of the Green version of the monitor would be transitioned to Schneider and specifically the Schneider Home app since Sense is no longer in the Monitor business.

I agree this was the understanding that I had as well, that they were functionally the same.

It seems the partnership has broken down and Schneider has taken over their own customers, that is kind of what it looks like.

Right. As annoyed as I am about this, I don’t expect that to change even with all of us voicing our disappointment.

However, I would like to know if Sense is moving away from the consumer model as alluded to in that post by SE. I don’t want to buy the Sense version just to be abandoned again down the road if they are primarily focused on selling their technology to power meter manufacturers and electric companies.

I would imagine the market for folks who want to install power monitoring in their panel is limited. Getting the tech into the hands of power meter manufacturers and other similar companies would drastically increase the market.

However, I hope if this is the case, the next business to business agreement gives Sense more control to maintain the quality of the service. Ultimately a Wiser D or Schneider Home product (which both mention they are powered by Sense, though the Scheneider less prominently) that doesn’t work looks bad on everyone, including Sense. In my interactions with Sense they’ve been quick to point out this is a Wiser D and not a sense product, however if I were go to find the box and manual it has Sense logos all over it, if I were to open it up, I imagine it is physically identical.

If this product fails, it looks bad on Sense regardless of the business arrangement, as to me the Sense logo was on the box and that gave me confidence in the product. I hope this can be avoided going forward.

This really does look like a bad breakup, otherwise there would be no reason to move customers over to such a half baked product. And also no reason not for Schneider to not take the current (working) application and evolve it, ie iterative development. Rewriting the entire product, from scratch, for a mature product takes a lot of time to get it right and re-create the time that’s been invested over the last 10 years since Sense was initially released. It’s obvious that that has not been done here.

As others have mentioned, this is a bad product as it stands. I was just forced to the dark side today and this app is horrendous. This is very common for SE though. Some may remember the Wiser Thermostats. Invested in 3 of them only to have SE kick the whole project to the curb and obsolete the devices. No backend support…just pulled the plug. They may decide that this isn’t for them and walk away again. Don’t be surprised.
