Schneider Wiser (Green) Monitors Transition

Yup, that post is an old topic and closed… but technically at the time of the post it was true.

Someone with authority should update that post to prevent false information and fake news.

@flipflopkid , I don’t know about authority, but I do have access ;). Have changed a couple of the topics to correct. Let me know if you see more.

Thanks @kevin1 Quick question, at the start of this thread you mentioned you created a Community topic for this, but I can’t find it?

@lane03 , this is the topic thread - “Schneider Wiser (Green) Monitors Transition”. It originally started as an add-on to some other topic, but I created the new Topic and moved the discussion here. If discussions branch out into different areas, I suppose we could create a separate category, but I would like to align with @JamesDrewAtSense and a couple other folks at Sense on that.

Ah gotcha, for some reason I thought you meant you made another thread in a more appropriate sub forum or something. I didn’t realize this was that thread. Lol

Another day, another new detected device that it does not tell me what it is. They are being added to the list as ‘heat’. And I have 3 of them so far. However none of the devices have any data, and with this app there’s no log with a time for me to know what it’s detecting. My best guess is toaster or garage door opener?

Either way I’m glad my orange unit is on the way but I would like to know where this stands legally given they have broken most of the functionality that is listed on the box. That said I assume the legalesse would allow this to shut down or break at any time without any repercussions.

@donnyk , pretty sure the Wiser terms of service for the app allow them to modify or even suspend the service without notice. That’s one of the downsides of a perpetual (lump sum upfront) software / service business model, vs a subscription approach. With a subscription, you usually have the option to stop paying, especially if the service changes dramatically.

Pretty sure Sense cares much more about growing their user base based on the current set of services, even thought they are also adding new services for utilities. From what little I have seen, the utility-level services will provide benefits back to traditional home users. This one should help with EV detection.

Quick update, just wanted to mention that despite not mentioning smart plugs in the app at all, new smart plugs are still detected by the firmware on the energy sensor and added to the list. In my example I was exposing my EV Charger over an emulated kasa plug and when I did that, it did come up in the list.

Looking forward to my Orange sense showing up. Should be here mid next week.

I’ve been trying to give SE a chance, but this app just isn’t ready for prime time. I have a smart meter and can see my daily energy usage from my electric company website (unfortunately my smart meter isn’t new enough to have Sense built in). The SE app isn’t even accurately reporting total daily energy usage and is off by an extreme amount. The last two days the SE app is showing 45 kwh total usage where my electric company is showing 83 kwh for the same two days. Looking back at my Sense data (still accessible on the Wiser app surprisingly) for all of last week and the totals match (292.7 kwh on from electric company vs 292.6 from Sense).

Same here. Energy usage was accurate with the Wiser app. Now with the SE app, it is about 50% of the usage reported by my electric company. I did file a report with SE.

Well I caved and bought a Sense and Emporia Vue that will be here in a few days. I’ll give SE 30 days (number of days I can return the Sense and Emporia for a refund) to get things working. If it doesn’t improve within that time frame then I’m giving up on Wiser/SE and will keep either the Sense or Emporia unit.

Edit: I ended up canceling both orders as I can’t justify spending $300 to replace the Wiser monitor that I already paid good money for. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the Emporia unit will work for me either as their alert notification method is lacking compared to Sense and won’t meet my needs.

I can’t decide if I was just used to the Sense app or if the Wiser app is just really poor in terms of UI. But there are without doubt plenty of issues with it…

@shopping, what notifications do you have? I didn’t see any way to set notification in the SE app.

No notifications - as far as customizing devices goes, all I can do is name each found device and select an icon for it (out of fewer options than the Sense app). No ability to combine devices eg motor and heater on a washing machine or set on off notifications.
While I understand not making it exactly like the Sense app, unfortunately this is not even close in feature equivalence.

Oh, I was asking as your screenshot shows a new notification. Yeah it’s severely lacking in features compared to Sense. Many of those features are still advertised on Schneider’s website too.

Technically they offer those features, but they are in the 4yr old Wiser Energy branded sense app that they forced us to use years ago. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Your crippled app experience is better than my brick over here. I still can’t configure the Wi-Fi settings on the wiser monitor I have. I feel tech support isn’t on their game over there…

I wouldn’t say they offer them anymore, since you can’t use the old Wiser app and they aren’t available in the SE Home app. Lol

It was notifying me it had detected a new device, the notification screen refers to a nonexistent button/link called “Configure Device” lol:

Lol yup. Try clicking on “always on” from the home screen and you’ll get an error. Pretty sure there are more bugs in this app than things that work.

I’m now up to 6 (that’s right, SIX!) ‘Heat and Mystery Heat’ devices that have been detected since I was moved over to Schneider. Of course, none of them have any information, or a time they were on, etc. And perhaps most importantly, I don’t have any new devices.
