Though his work only focused one mechanical power and energy, he does get credit for increasing efficiency of steam engines ! Plus an innovative business model:
“Boulton and Watt charged an annual payment, equal to one third of the value of the coal saved in comparison to a Newcomen engine performing the same work.”

Indeed.
Well, by extension one could argue that he came up with the steampunk version of Sense before there was the grid to plug it in to; and the interweb for that matter.
The waveform & storage in this case is more of a mind-thing and the UI was, I suppose, the u-s-e-r i-n-t-e-r-f-a-c-e.
